At various times – indeed, generally many times throughout each day – we encounter our sinfulness, weakness, and basic human limitations. Our tendency is to flee from this experience of our human poverty. The great insight of the Carmelite nun Ruth Burrows, however, is that human poverty – when perceived and embraced for what it is – can be a deep mystery that plunges us into Trinitarian depths.
